Then yesterday I wandered into the motorcycle aisle at Walmart, and stumbled across some motorcycling sunglasses for $14.
They have some foam padding which I thought might help with keeping the cold out, and have an anti-fog coating. I got the clear ones, but they also have ones with colored lenses. I also picked up a pair of Grease Monkey Gorilla Grip gloves. I was just thinking about getting a pair of mechanics gloves for repairing flats in the winter, and coincidentally these were in the same aisle as the glasses. I can fit my hands with glove liners on inside so maybe can keep my hands dry and a little warm if needing to make emergency repairs.
The glasses look a little dorky, so they're right up my alley. (Debbie said they make me look like Barry on Storage Wars.) They seem to have a wide field of vision. Will give them a try tomorrow, I think I might like the size and fit of these better than goggles. Next thing you know, I'll be shopping for accessories at the Harley dealership.
My glasses fog up when I stop at red lights. So I don't stop at red lights any more.
ReplyDeleteJust kidding.
Back in my ice hockey days I had to use an anti-fog spray on my glasses and it worked pretty well. Haven't used anything on my winter commutes because my glasses clear quickly after I get moving. Check out anti-fog on any of the hockey forums and you'll find cheaper solutions such as Pledge, shaving cream, and shampoo.
hmmm, so a little "lemon pledge while you're biking". sorry, couldn't help myself (not everybody's old enough like me to remember those commercials)
DeleteAs a seriously cheap (thrifty) shopper, I used to have a pair of $5 safety goggles from General Store. They got pretty scratched up and I finally gave up on them--currently riding without eye protection but also have the problem with contacts drying out.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I'd really get much use out of these glasses, but they're actually working out pretty good. Have some trouble fogging when I stop, but my contacts are better.
ReplyDeleteI'm still working out the glasses thing for the winter. I tried swimming glasses which was a disaster. For now I'm using sunglasses. Obviously I'm new here. One of Hanks blog friends.
ReplyDeleteI thought about trying swimming goggles, so I'll just cross those off the list of options.
